Yeah, you saw that right. Better PC Health is up for grabs. There are too many cool things about it that I am not using. The thing that drove me over the edge on it was something random that happened. I got the passing idea to call some schools and churches to see if they would be interested in a product that would lower IT costs allowing budgets more predictable.
The thing is they were very interested… Good news right?
In most cases, you call on people and get a straight, “no” or a very (seemingly kind) “maybe later”. But, the thing was they were really interested. This sounded like a great deal to them. Something I hadn’t considered but looked at later some of these schools were looking to hire IT people. It started to make sense. They need to control the budget and my product might allow them not to spend more than they need.
Now I felt great about this. I had found or seemingly found my missing market segment… However, as the days passed and I just tried to catch up on my existing work at other things I realized 2 things.
2 Things were Holding Me Back
First, I realized that inadvertently in an effort to make the money I need to survive I had moved on to other things. My baby got thrown out with the bath water at some point and I needed to do some rehab on it. My sales copy was (is) out of date. Videos I had planned on making never happened. Email autoresponders sit unfinished. The list of undone goes on.
Second, I realized that I had lost the passion that gave me an edge originally… I used to sit anxiously waiting for the newest release of tech news, the latest breakthrough, or the next big gadget. That ended years ago… Mostly around the time I got married and realized it was much more fun to hang out with someone cool like my wife.
Really along my journey, I found I liked building websites, having a hand in marketing, and ‘doing’ sales. I think I really knew that for much longer, but didn’t have the opportunities or more possibly know how to take advantage if I did.
Someone is going to get a deal
With a fully working support system. live chat, built-in email system (autoresponder system), and existing customers. Someone is going to get a deal.
It is well past time for me to do this but I am moving forward and will post episode 2 of Let’s Build a Business (LBaB). I’ll use this as a “laundry list” of the things I am working on and I will plow through just trying to get the basic site up to the point where a product can be purchased at: BetterPCHealth.com

Other SSL is set up External SEO and analytics are setup such as google analytics, bing webmaster tools, and more. I have also setup a Facebook app for analytics purposes when I run Facebook ads. And last I have set up automated sharing of posts, products, and new pages etc.
I maybe forgetting something.
What to do First
When you setup WordPress you need to spend the next few hours setting all the options and choosing how your site will display and look. Mostly these options are easy and most people even skip them. However, if you setup these options and make the right choices your site will work well and …. well be awesome. You can literally build an entire business on your WordPress site. So I have spent the last few hours since the last section of this article doing just that.
Regular site settings, SEO settings, Theme Settings, email settings, Shopping cart settings, and so on. I will make a video that covers this in-depth and eventually link that to this post.
The key takeaway here:
Open every single dialogue and check to see if something looks important or wrong.
The way I put it here makes it sounds easy and for the most part it is. However, it is easily intimidating and does take a long time even when you know what you are looking to get done.
Next on the List: Pages
Now I used demo content so these steps would be different for building a site from nothing. It is important to point out here I will be changing the site and testing it until it “works”. That is going to take several episodes.
And Now for: Products
The BIG goal here is to find products that people will purchase online. This means testing and focusing on the minimal number to get results. For our purposes we will have the PC Cleanup, and Yearly PC Service. Any other billing will be done via line-item but I will show all that in the next episode. You will be able to see the completed products in this episode (#2) and I will explain how plan on testing different version of the copy and trying to increase conversions.

Opportunity is Everywhere
I’m not bragging when I say this, but opportunity is everywhere. I think most people become immune to seeing it around them. Then there is another group completely that has the issue I have, I’m good at seeing the opportunity but not so good at picking which one to go with.
Every Opportunity Seems Damned Promising
Currently, everything I’m looking at seems awesome. Now I must admit from the time I started this post till now some of these opportunities feel more right than others, but the same problem persists because the ones that “feel right” are the hardest long shots of all of them.
Could I be too optimistic? I mean I certainly think it’s possible.
Breakdown of Current Opportunities
Hektech and Better PC Health – these seem somewhat obvious, but I have made some key changes in the last month to Hektech, and I have planned for months to do the Let’s Build a Business for Better PC Health. Growth is slow and in the future sometime I will explain some major problems I have. If you don’t know what Hektech and Better PC Health click the links of each to find out more
YouTube – This is really a small part of a bigger whole at this point, however, it could be a great opportunity. Right now I have my personal channel, Hektech, and BPCH along with another random channel that I have not done anything with but have plans to make some fun top 10 type videos on. YouTube does allow for people to make better than an average living but most of the people who are doing this have been on there for years and make high-quality videos.
Blogging – I have met a few people in the recent months that make more than you or I could possibly imagine from blogging… We are talking about over $100k monthly. I don’t think I write anything that could make that kind of money, but I could see myself doing that for sure.
Sherece’s Stores – Last on this list is Sherece’s stuff, Sherece.com and Baking Is My Yoga (Facebook and Website). We are looking at doing a Kickstarter for the latter and we already have Sherece.com running. I want to give her enough attention so that she can be successful as possible.
This leaves out the other people I am working with… It leaves out CL Harmon and The Mannford Reporter, it leaves out NJ and our planned PTA site, and at least 3 more people I can think of without trying!!!
How I Look at Each Opportunity
Well without trying to sound like some kind of nut (I likely do) I look at them damned optimistically. Hektech or Better PC Health could be extremely successful beyond the limits of “owning a freelance job”… wildly I am telling you. They are both businesses that have completely automatable systems. They could be staffed by people with minimal skill and they both would provide huge value for their customers.
YouTube, if you didn’t know it, creates millionaires. No Joke. Finding whatever it takes to make some videos that get to 1 million views monthly. I think I would only need 1 or 2 videos to do that monthly to live very well… I have heard many people get side gigs and other work from their YouTube videos, I do hope for that.
Blogging is one of those things I have always said I wanted to do, but just never really did the “right” way. People want to see consistent material of a certain quality.
Last on this list is my lovely wife’s stuff. She really has some stuff that looks like it has huge potential.
But I still Feel Stuck…
When it comes to BPCH and Hektech; I just can’t seem to figure out how to get it rolling like it should. I think that is the main reason I am doing the Let’s Build a Business on YouTube. Which brings me to my next point YouTube I see as a very long shot and not something I am banking on at all. It is kind of like blogging, however, maybe I can get it right this time around. I don’t expect to make any direct money from this. Much like YouTube, I could see how it could generate income in other ways. With Sherece’s stores I feel like I can help a lot, but don’t know all that I need to know. I for sure don’t feel I can give her the time and attention she needs or deserves.
With all this opportunity, in a way I feel stuck on two sides; which do I pick and how do I do it right? What I end up doing is just everything, which actually seems to help, but it is hard to think this is the optimal way of doing things.

I have been thinking all weekend what to do, today. Today is hard.
Basically, I have too many things to do. I also know the importance of some over others but the clarity goes way down when you talk about what makes money today vs what makes it tomorrow. I think I have to evaluate things like this:
What needs to get done?
What is right for the enterprise?
Now those are taken directly from the book Effective Executive by Peter Drucker. There are other pertinent questions, but if you want to distil things down to a base and work from there these truly are the right questions.
Now I must set out to take care of these things the best I can!
As an update, this has been put on hold for reasons that I can’t go into right now, but this is still a valid idea and could be a cool project.
While I need some refining and other help along the way this is the current thing I am working on. “Let’s Build a Business”, this should be pretty fun. If you watch this video please remember I can’t be horrible forever 😉 I also encourage feedback.

I will use any feedback for future episodes, I planned on 1 episode a week, so if something changes I will update you. Other than that this should be a fun way to test some things out and see where we can take things. I really love to experiment, I think building things in a continuous development cycle is the right way to do “tech”. And above all that I don’t know what I am doing so, this is something we can do together 🙂
